Here is the advertisement for an amazing opportunity for one of our senior O-6s. A “best fit” would have some Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD)/Pentagon experience, big picture Joint understanding of Air Force, Army, Navy health care current and future priorities, and understanding of the Defense Health Agencies scope of Military Treatment Facility/Markets authority, direction and control. The person needs to be able to accurately interpret and document discussions across the Services’ SGs, DHA Director, Reform/Transition initiatives (OSD Congressionally Directed) and Health Affairs organization (Deputy Assistant Secretaries’ of Defense and Assistant Secretary of Defense four star position). Understanding of big picture and OSD organization is necessary.

Medical Corps Liaison Position, Medical Corps Chief’s Office, BUMED – O4
The Office of the Corps Chief supports our Corps Chief, RDML Hancock in directly advising the Surgeon General on matters significant to the Medical Corps. The team includes the MC Career Planner, MC Plans & Policy, MC Reserve Affairs Officer, and reports to the Deputy Chief of the Medical Corps (in other words, the owner of this blog). The position involves frequent, direct interaction with leadership throughout Navy Medicine and is specifically leveraged to offer mid-grade medical officers an opportunity to develop their skills at the strategic level.

Intermediate and Senior Leadership Courses Available in the DC Area (Local Attendees Only)
Navy Medicine Professional Development Center (NMPDC) in Bethesda will be hosting facilitators from the Navy Leadership and Ethics Center (NLEC) for the instructing of two separate leader development courses in the coming months. Courses are as follows:
- Intermediate Leadership Course (ILC)
- 3-7 February 2020
- O4s (to include O4 selects)
- Senior Leadership Course (SLC)
- 6-10 April 2020
- O5s (to include O5 selects)
These are great opportunities for Navy Medicine officers local to the DC area to attend leader development courses while being offered locally. Currently these classes are only being offered to local attendees.

MHS Female Physician Leadership Course – Call for Nominations
We are announcing the call for nominations for the 2020 MHS Female Physician Leadership Course (FPLC) to be held April 15-17, 2020 at Defense Health Headquarters in Falls Church, VA. The target audience is Active Duty and Reserve female physicians (MD/DO) in the grades of O-4 select to junior O-5 (less than 2 years’ time in grade).
