Policy and Practice Officer, Medical Corps – The Medical Corps Chief seeks qualified officers to fill the O-5/O-6 level position as Policy and Practice Officer for the Medical Corps Chiefs Office. The selected individual must possess the required experience and demonstrate exceptional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform and execute the duties and responsibilities as outlined at the attached position description. The assignment is 36 months, and the primary duty location is in Falls Church, Virginia. The selected individual should arrive no later than Jan 1, 2023, with early reporting authorized.

Hot Fill for Fall 2021 – MC Career Planner Position – CAPT(s)/CAPT
This position is located within the Office of the Navy Medical Corps, Office of the Corps Chiefs, BUMED. This position serves as a focal point for dissemination of leadership, coursework and officer development for 3700 Active and 500 Reserve physicians. Specific roles include but are not limited to recruitment, career consultation, Career Development Board oversight, and board membership/leadership for several critical committees within BUMED.
Requirements for the position include rank of CAPT or CAPT select, board certification in any medical specialty, a solid understanding of both MTF and operational medicine practice, and excellent communication and organizational skills. Mission: Mentor and guide all USN Medical corps officers providing leadership and career development support and guidance. Integral to selecting and maintaining a competent and professional Medical Corps which is valued by the organization and meets the needs of the mission and the strategic goals of readiness, health, and partnerships.
Functions: Mentors and provides leadership development opportunities for Medical Corps Officers. Serve as president of the Professional Review Board, responsible for accessions of MC Officers via FAP/TMS/DA pathways. Responsible for reviewing litigation reports quality assurance reports in determination of NPDB reporting. Plans and coordinates the annual USN MC GME/Operational Intern Road Show. Medical Corps Chief Office liaison to all other Corps Career Planners and Leadership/Career Development Working Groups. Subject matter expert on accession issues pertinent to MC Officers. Serves as member of multiple councils and boards including Medical Education Planning Council and HPSP selection boards. Provides regular AMDOC, ODS, and command-requested briefings relative to the Medical Corps.
Command Relations: Ability to communicate effectively to a 1 or 2 Star Admiral on a regular basis.
Experience Required: Highly recommended to have: Knowledge of Department of Defense, Navy, Navy Medical Corps policies and instructions and policies of other Federal entities as needed; Experience with recruitment, retention, promotion, and sustainment of Medical Corps Officers; Proficient networking, written and oral communication, and public speaking skills.

Mission: Direct, design, develop and evaluate all Medical Corps policy initiatives in support of and in continuous alignment with BUMED Strategic Goals. Research and revise policy related to professional practice based upon relevant statutes and regulations on community, regional, and national levels. The effect of this position is far reaching in terms of the sustainment, changing nature, and future growth of the Navy physician community, as well as the successful career development of individual Navy Medical Corps officers.
Functions: Draft, prepare and coordinate routing of policy action packages for the Corps Chief Office. Act as the Medical Corps representative for a variety of committees to include but not limited to National Defense Authorization Act Working Groups, Collaborative Care Board, Master Privilege List Group, Medical Corps Professional Review Case Panel, and Medical Corps Professional Review Board. Coordinate corps specific plans and policy activities with appropriate BUMED Codes. Collaborate and network with Policy and Practice Officers from other corps on enterprise wide policy matters. Manage selection of and communication with Medical Corps specialty leaders, to include coordination of specialty leader business meetings.
