141st Interagency Institute for Federal Health Leaders – 18-29 SEP 2023
Who: Senior Medical Officers tracking toward Executive Medicine (O6 preferred, senior O5 acceptable)
What: 141st Interagency Institute for Federal Health Leaders (Medical Corps is limited to 2-3 seats)
When: September 18-29, 2023 (In-person). Sessions are scheduled from 0800-1700 daily.
Where: Milken Institute School of Public Health, The George Washington University, 950 New Hampshire Avenue NW, Washington DC (centrally funded by NML&PDC)
Uniform: The uniform is Khaki’s daily aside from SBD required for opening day, embassy visit and graduation day.
Course Description: The purpose of the Interagency Institute for Health Leaders is to provide an opportunity for the seasoned, practicing federal health professional to examine current issues in health care policy and management and to explore their potential impact on the federal health care system. The faculty maximizes the learning experience by presenting materials resulting from research and experience, as well as examples and case studies from the contemporary national health policy decision-making process. Funding details will be provided for selected applicants.

Dual Hatted Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Operational Medical Officer and FMF Specialty Leader
We are currently accepting applications for the Fleet Marine Force Operational Medical Officer/ FMF Specialty Leader. Please note that this position is a combined position with the Director for Clinical Services at Marine Corps Headquarters, Health Services in Arlingon, VA. PCS is required. The FMF OMO Specialty Leader is unique in that providers from multiple specialties are represented and personnel may move in and out of the community throughout their careers. Qualifications for the position are as follows:
- O-5 or O-6 Medical Corps Officer
- Board Certified in Primary Specialty
- Be currently serving with or have served within the USMC Operational Forces at the level of Regimental Surgeon or higher (Major Subordinate Command Surgeon or higher preferred)
- Be within Navy height and weight standards without any PRT failures
- Be eligible for PCS to HQMC – Health Services in Arlington, Virginia Like other primary Specialty Leaders, the FMF OMO Specialty Leader engages in officer selection for training; mentorship within the community; and providing recommendations for the detailing process. Because of the unique nature of the FMF OMO community, additional responsibilities include
- Creation and maintenance of an OMO specific training pipeline
- Oversight of the FMFWO/QO program
- Participation in table top exercises
- Dual reporting to The Medical Officer of the Marine Corps and the Medical Corps Chief.

Joint Medical Executive Skills Institute (JMESI) – CAPSTONE for MHS Leaders Course (Virtual)

What: Joint Medical Executive Skills Institute (JMESI) – CAPSTONE for MHS Leaders Course
When: July 10-13, 2023 (Virtual – only 6 seats for Medical Corps)
Course Description: The Capstone Course is designed to be a pinnacle event for recently assigned senior military treatment facility commanders, lead agents, and senior medical department officers in key staff positions who will benefit from exposure to and familiarity with entities that shape the MHS. The course provides participants with exposure to the operations of the various organizations within the Department of Defense, pertinent congressional staffs, and the offices of the three Surgeons General. Participation in the Capstone Course will enhance the understanding of how national healthcare policies are formed, and by whom, and how they are implemented and put into operation.

Channeling the Warrior Within – Leadership Pocket Talks
The Channeling the Warrior Within resource promotes resiliency and toughness among the female service member population and prompts users to engage in self-reflection activities to manage emotions, effectively lead, and overcome challenges. The resource includes podcasts, inspirational lectures, and other media resources on building mental strength, dealing with adversity, and developing grit. Further, exercises and strategies are included to support service members’ ability to apply the Warrior Mindset. The Navy Medicine Female Force Readiness Clinical Community put this resource together.

The position is open to Navy officers of all Corps at the O-5/O-6 level whose professional education and training demonstrate a fundamental understanding of mental health matters.
Interested candidates must be available to assume the position’s duties at NMRTC San Diego by October 1, 2023. When: June 12-16, 2023 (only 1 seat for Navy Medicine Corps)
Where: Online via the Navy Postgraduate School – Center of Executive Education
Course Description: NSLS provides senior leaders with an intensive five-day executive education program that introduces the latest “best practices” in strategic planning, goal setting, strategic communication, effects-based thinking, risk management, financial management, and innovation. Learning is enhanced using case studies, small-team exercises, practical applications, seminar-style discussions, peer learning, and faculty presentations. Participants will be introduced to subject matter experts within DoD and industry, to include insights from senior Navy leaders and academic researchers. The course is designed to prepare participants to meet organizational challenges in their current and future assignments, and to empower them to become more effective change agents and better-informed stewards of the Navy’s resources.
