Straight through opportunities are seeming very competitive, can you pretty much expect a gmo if you don’t match straight through?

Probably but it is not 100%. You can apply as an intern and try to get a residency spot. If you are open to RAD to NADDS you could have a chance.

    Sir,

Is there anyway to discuss the military match with you via email?

Would you be able to offer any clarity on what would happen if a student who was selected for NADDS failed to match or SOAP into the civilian match? Would they still have a TY available for them in the military?

No, the military fills all of its spots. The person would normally get a 1 year civilian deferment and would have to scramble for an civilian internship.

At the point are they able to switch specialties? Also, what are their options if they do not match at all?

They can apply for any specialty they want after internship. If they cannot secure an internship, they likely would go on unpaid leave until they can.

It looks like for all specialties where RAD->NADDS is an option, the number of positions allowed for NADDS varies from year to year and is not necessarily predictable. Does anyone know in the past several years, how many NADDS positions were available for neurology in particular?

RAD to NADDS and NADDS are two different things. NADDS is for medical students, and RAD to NADDS is for people who are already on active duty. Which are you asking about?

Sir, I am a medical student, however I am interested in past numbers for both 4th year med students applying for NADDS for neurology, as well as PGY1s applying for RAD to NADDS for neurology. With the understanding that these numbers change and are not predictable, I just wanted to get a sense of just how different those numbers are from year to year, and compare that to the number of people applying, if possible. Thank you.

    Sir,

In regards to neurosurgery and radiology, both interests of mine, how soon in advance will the Navy make it known if there will be FTOS or NADDS positions available. I am wanting to use my auditions at civilian residencies (in addition to the mandatory one at Walter Reed for nsg) but if they are not offering FTOS or NADDS in those specialties for 2024 then I would do additional rotations at MTFs. Any advice on the matter?

The 2024 GME note should be out somewhere around 1 JUL. I highly doubt there will be any civilian residency spots for Radiology as there is plenty of room in our three Navy/Joint training program. For Neurosurgery, if you can match you’ll probably have civilian opportunities if you don’t get Walter Reed. This is just a guess though. You’ll have to wait for the note to know what is available.
