Pentagon adds new ‘warfighter’ evaluation for officers seeking first star
BLUF – The Pentagon is adding a Joint Warfighter Evaluation for officers competing for promotion to one-star, testing operational planning, decision-making and leadership under simulated combat conditions; the Navy plans to assess roughly 308 unrestricted line and information warfare captains at the Naval War College through a three-hour written assessment followed by a two- to three-hour wargame. For Navy Medicine, the current Navy plan notably does not include Medical Corps or other medical staff corps captains, but the broader initiative signals increased emphasis on demonstrated joint warfighting ability in senior-leader development and promotion, which could eventually influence how Navy Medicine prepares officers for operational leadership.
