Newport News Navy barracks to receive $1.7 billion upgrade
BLUF – The Navy has signed a five-year, $1.7 billion agreement to construct or renovate 8,098 beds in Newport News, replacing the aging Huntington Hall and supporting the “No Sailor Lives Afloat” initiative to move sailors from ships into safe, modern shore-based housing during maintenance periods. For Navy Medicine, improved housing is an important health and readiness investment because adequate sleep, recovery and living conditions can support sailors’ physical and mental well-being while reducing the stresses associated with prolonged shipboard living.
