Updated recommendations for hip and knee osteoarthritis provide guidelines for warfighter readiness
BLUF – The Defense Health Agency released an updated Clinical Practice Guideline for the non-surgical management of hip and knee osteoarthritis that emphasizes patient education, weight management, exercise and physical therapy as first-line treatments, evidence-based use of medications and injections, and timely referral for surgical evaluation when conservative therapy is no longer effective. For Navy Medicine, the guideline provides standardized, evidence-based recommendations to help preserve mobility, reduce unnecessary interventions, and optimize the functional readiness of service members while improving long-term musculoskeletal care across the Military Health System.
