DHA Advancement Update from Dr. Malanoski, DHA Deputy Director
(There are links here that you must access from a DoD computer, but I wanted to get the update out on the blog.)
DHA Colleagues,
In 2023, we undertook a number of positive steps in shaping our DHA organizational structure to meet our mission and better align authorities and responsibilities.
These strategic actions were collectively known as DHA Advancement. The most notable change was the establishment of the Defense Health Networks (DHNs). In October 2023, following close consultation with the Military Departments and other stakeholders, we both streamlined the span of control in managing MTFs, and ensured DHN leaders had the authorities necessary to address personnel and financial resourcing in an integrated manner.
Within the headquarters, among other changes, we also aligned these human resource and financial management functions with the Assistant Director for Resources & Personnel Integration. We made other changes that established a coherent set of activities under the direction of all three Assistant Directors.
We’ve concluded all major organizational changes to the DHA for the foreseeable future. We will continue to monitor the effectiveness of these changes, but we are standing down the DHA Advancement team and consider this work completed, consistent with the vision of the Director and with the statutory direction from Congress.
Along with LTG Crosland, I thank everyone who contributed their intellect and time to shaping our organization – particularly those individuals who rapidly accepted their new responsibilities at the DHNs. The SITREPS that are submitted on a bi-weekly basis continue to highlight the value gained from these changes, and how effective our MTF and DHN leaders are at identifying and implementing solutions to local or network challenges.
