From Electrical Systems to Human Body Systems: How 2 EMDP2 Students Bring Technical Skills to Medicine
BLUF – Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Brandy Ledet, a former nuclear electrician, and Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Efrain Negron, an electronics maintenance technician, are transitioning toward careers as military physicians through the Uniformed Services University’s Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program (EMDP2). Their experiences demonstrate how technical expertise, operational leadership, and personal encounters with military healthcare can prepare enlisted personnel for medical careers, highlighting EMDP2 as an important pathway for developing future Navy Medicine physicians with firsthand operational experience.
