Navy sending aircraft carrier to Middle East with extra food and supplies (but no change to mental health resources)
BLUF – The USS Theodore Roosevelt is deploying toward the Middle East with significantly more food, hygiene products and other supplies than previous carriers as the Navy applies lessons from the USS Abraham Lincoln’s 286-day deployment and adapts to a disrupted logistics network following damage to facilities in Bahrain. For Navy Medicine, the anticipated eight-month-or-longer deployment puts renewed emphasis on sustaining sailors physically and psychologically, particularly after eight suicide attempts within the Lincoln strike group, although the Navy says Roosevelt will deploy with mental health capabilities comparable to those on other carrier strike groups.
