‘Ready Today, Learning Always, Saving Lives’: Defense Health Agency’s Joint Trauma System welcomes new chief, aligning focus to deliver joint warfighting capabilities
BLUF – Air Force Col. Valerie Sams has taken command of the Defense Health Agency’s Joint Trauma System, with a new strategy focused on preparing military trauma care for large-scale combat operations by operationalizing combatant-command trauma systems, modernizing the trauma registry, standardizing care and transforming medical training. For Navy Medicine, the JTS emphasis on data-driven lessons, interoperable technology and unified trauma standards is particularly important for improving casualty survival and reducing preventable death and disability during distributed maritime operations where evacuation and definitive care may be delayed.
