U.S. Navy evaluates new digital health system aboard USS Essex to modernize at-sea care
BLUF – The Navy evaluated the Joint Operational Medicine Information Systems (JOMIS) Clinical Data Provider aboard USS Essex, using shipboard medical personnel, Fleet Surgical Team 5, and the 1st Medical Battalion as end-user testers to assess how a modern, interoperable electronic health record performs in the disconnected and demanding operational environment at sea. For Navy Medicine, the assessment is an important step toward modernizing expeditionary healthcare by ensuring deployed clinicians have reliable access to patient information, improving continuity of care, clinical decision-making, and interoperability across operational forces before fleet-wide implementation.
