Military Spouse Commission Holds First Meeting, Identifies Top Issues
BLUF – The President’s Military Spouse Commission held its first meeting and identified healthcare, employment and housing as its leading priorities, with members highlighting problems including appointment wait times, gaps in specialty and mental health care, professional-license portability and the effects of frequent military moves on careers and housing. For Navy Medicine, the commission’s focus on improving continuity and capacity of family healthcare—and proposals to allow licensed military spouses to practice on federal installations—could help address access problems while potentially expanding the pool of mental health and other healthcare professionals serving military families.
