DoD to launch pilot for some service members to freeze sperm, eggs

Posted on Updated on

BLUF – The Department of Defense will launch a three-year pilot program in September that reimburses eligible service members for fertility preservation before qualifying deployments or extended separations, covering up to $500 annually for sperm retrieval and cryopreservation and up to $10,000 annually for egg retrieval and preservation. For Navy Medicine, the program expands reproductive healthcare options for deploying personnel, supports family planning for service members at risk of combat-related infertility or prolonged separation, and highlights the growing role of military medicine in addressing reproductive health as a readiness and retention issue.
