USU Medical Students Forge Officer and Provider Roles in Global Rotations
BLUF – The article highlights how fourth-year Uniformed Services University medical students use month-long global health and operational medicine rotations in locations such as Peru, Ghana, Kenya, and Thailand to strengthen both their identities as military officers and future physicians, gaining firsthand experience in austere medicine, multinational collaboration, leadership, and cross-cultural care. For Navy Medicine, these rotations help develop operationally minded physicians who are better prepared for expeditionary missions, humanitarian assistance, and coalition operations by building the clinical adaptability and leadership skills needed to care for service members and partner forces worldwide.
