Marine Corps issues new rules to prevent heat and cold injuries
BLUF – The Marine Corps has issued updated guidance requiring commanders to apply more structured risk management to prevent heat- and cold-related injuries during training and operations, including mandatory education on environmental hazards, use of wet-bulb globe temperature and wind chill indices, work/rest cycles, hydration, acclimatization, and rapid recognition and treatment of affected personnel. For Navy Medicine, the guidance reinforces the critical role of preventive medicine teams, corpsmen, and medical officers in environmental health surveillance, commander education, and early intervention to reduce preventable injuries that degrade force readiness during training and expeditionary operations.
