Anonymous Guest Post – Officer Photograph Submission Issue Workaround

Posted on Updated on

Here is an anonymous story with some tips for anyone struggling to get their officer photograph submitted to PERS:

I have spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to get my officer photograph updated, and was able to finally get it uploaded using “Internet Explorer Mode” on Microsoft Edge.  Currently the Navy Personnel Command Website times out when trying to upload your officer photograph using Chrome or Edge.  I tried working with My Navy Career Center (MNCC) to manually upload my photo, but they had been all but unhelpful – prematurely closing my case without resolving the issue multiple times.

I wanted to pass this workaround for your blog, as I have seen a number of email threads regarding the Officer Photo, but never this solution.

How to Open a Website In Edge Compatibility Mode

1.        Open Microsoft Edge on your device.

2.        Click on the three dots (menu icon) in the top-right corner of the browser.

3.        Select Settings from the dropdown menu.

4.        In the left-hand menu, click on Default browser.

5.        Under the Internet Explorer compatibility section: Set Let Internet Explorer open sites in Microsoft Edge to Recommended. Set Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode (IE mode) to Allow.

6.        Click the Restart button to apply the changes. Edge will close and reopen automatically.

Opening a Website in Compatibility Mode

1.        Navigate to the website you want to open in IE mode.

2.        Click on the three dots and select Reload tab in Internet Explorer mode.

3.        A notification will appear below the address bar. Toggle Open this page in Internet Explorer mode next time if you want the page to always open in IE mode for the next 30 days.

4.        Click Done to save the setting.

Uploading your Officer Photo in Compatibility Mode

 1. Navigate to BOL https://www.bol.navy.mil/BAM/

 2. Reload the page in compatibility mode. (The Internet Explorer Icon should be visible next to the web address in the browser address bar.)

 3. Click on Officer Photo.  Verify that the IE icon is still in the browser address bar.

 4. Upload the photo using the NAVPERS 1070/884 Tool.

 5. Navigate to your To-Do list and confirm your submission.

If this doesn’t work, people can contact MNCC to submit manually, but like I mentioned above they were less than helpful in my case.
