Please join us for the next Mayo Clinic History of Medicine Society Lecture with presenters Kazuki Sumiyama, M.D., Ph.D. and Jamie Newman, M.D., M.H.A. This lecture will be hosted in Rochester, Minnesota, with online access available via Zoom.

 
Bridging Cultures, Healing People: How A Japanese Naval Surgeon and Rural Minnesota Doctor Connected over Patient Care

Two physicians, of vastly different backgrounds met and found common ground in their approach to patient care. In 1906, Baron Takaki came to Rochester, and a year later, at 89 years old, Dr. William Worrall Mayo travelled to Japan. In this session, participants will gain insight into the relationship between these two physicians as well as Baron Takaki’s medical advances in treating Beri Beri disease.
