Teammates,
I’m excited to announce that Rear Admiral (RDML) Matthew Case joined our DHA leadership team this past week and will serve as our Assistant Director (Acting) for Health Care Administration (AD-HCA).
Matt brings a wealth of experience in leadership roles throughout military medicine and with the Navy. Most recently, Matt served as both the Director, Defense Health Network Atlantic and as the Commander, Naval Medical Forces Atlantic in Portsmouth, VA. He’s had other vital leadership roles directly supporting the Navy Surgeon General at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, as well as commanding US Naval Hospital Jacksonville. Matt also brings operational experience with deployments to Afghanistan, Djibouti, time with the 6th Fleet, and in support of Marine Expeditionary Forces at Camp Lejeune.
Throughout his time at the DHN Atlantic, Matt has been deeply immersed in our digital health transformation and has helped lead the Venture Site initiatives across all five sites, to include Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. His insights from previous digital health efforts at NH Jacksonville have proven invaluable in our own journey.

RDML(s) Kevin Brown is Next NMFL Commander
Here is the flag announcement, although I’m sure he will not be the Chief of the Medical Service Corps and that is a typo:
Capt. Kevin J. Brown, selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as commander, Naval Medical Forces Atlantic, with additional duties as director, Tidewater Market/chief of Medical Service Corps, Portsmouth, Virginia. Brown is currently serving as commanding officer, Navy Medical Readiness and Training Command/Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
New Flag Assignment for RDML Case

(lower half) Matthew Case will be assigned as deputy to the assistant director for Health Care Administration, Defense Health Agency, with additional duties as chief of Medical Service Corps, Falls Church, Virginia. Case is currently serving as commander, Naval Medical Forces Atlantic, with additional duties as director, Tidewater Market; and chief of Medical Service Corps, Portsmouth, Virginia.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III announced today that the president has made the following nominations:
Navy Capt. Kevin J. Brown for appointment to the grade of rear admiral (lower half). Brown is currently serving as commander, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Medical Flag Officer Assignments
The Secretary of the Navy and Chief of Naval Operations announced the following assignments:
Rear Adm. (lower half) Walter D. Brafford is assigned as commander, Naval Medical Forces Support Command, with additional duties as Chief of the Dental Corps, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Rear Adm. (lower half) Robert J. Hawkins is assigned as deputy assistant director, Operations, Strategy, and Education and Training, Defense Health Agency, with additional duties as Chief of the Navy Nurse Corps, Falls Church, Virginia.

Statement From Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III on the Senate’s Confirmation of 425 General and Flag Officers
While this day is long overdue, I welcome the Senate’s confirmation of 425 of our highly qualified general and flag officers, who will at last be able to serve in critical positions to our national security.
These holds have already dragged on needlessly for months, degrading our military readiness and forcing far too many of our outstanding military families to put their lives on hold and endure even greater sacrifices. These unnecessary and unprecedented holds have forced multiple military services to operate without Senate-confirmed leaders and obligated some military leaders to take on two exceptionally demanding jobs at once.
We also look forward to the Senate’s confirmation of the remainder of our highly qualified and apolitical military leaders, so that America can have the fully fielded team it deserves during this critical moment for our national security.
