Achieving diversity in the force is an important objective, but I would humbly submit that it is secondary to the Navy acquiring the skill sets required to defend the nation. Perhaps there are more STEM graduates than necessary, but that judgment has more to do with the operational and skill requirements of the service than a desired statistical diversity objective. Diversity will and does make the Navy stronger. Restricting STEM grad accessions may not be the wisest way to pursue that objective, however.
